Life Lessons

Greetings in the Name of Christ,

On March 18, American astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov splashed down after being stranded in space for more than 9 months – 286 days. What was intended to be an eight-day mission, became a lengthy effort to survive.

At the press conference following their rescue, a CBS reporter asked Butch Wilmore, “What is your life lesson or takeaway from these 9 months in space?”

Here is Wilmore’s response:

“Well, in answer to your question, I can tell you honestly, my feeling on all of this goes back to my Faith. It’s bound in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is working out His plan and His purposes for His glory throughout all of humanity. And how that plays into our lives is significant and important. And, however that plays out, I am content.

Because I understand that, I understand that He is at work in all things. Some things are for the good…go to Hebrews Chapter 11…some things look to us to be not so good. But it’s all working out for His good for those that will believe.

And, that’s the answer. So, thanks for asking.”

Wilmore could have mentioned many lessons that he probably learned in this ordeal. Instead, Wilmore spoke of his faith in Christ. An unwavering, solid faith in Christ that got him through a horrendous ordeal.

How many of us when asked about our lessons in life, start with our faith?

Jesus said this, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

Our challenge is to start each day with the Name of Jesus on our lips. We all have many responsibilities and challenges to face. We face many temptations to put our faith second, third, or even further down the list of our priorities. Let us keep the faith, and no matter our circumstances, know that the Creator of all that is, the One who gave His life for us, the One who will never let us go has us surrounded by love.

Paul put it this way, Not that I am referring to being in need, for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty, and of being in need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:11-13)

Sunday is going to be great! See you in worship!
